The book of Joshua is a continuation of the first five books of the bible. At the end of the previous book of Deuteronomy we read that Moses has died. In the opening verses of the book of Joshua God speaks to Joshua and instructs him to take over.
The book of Joshua describes the course of events, the battles and the blessings that transpired when Israel finally entered the land of Promise Canaan. This book portrays a vivid picture of the New Testament church moving forward in evangelism and its blessings when obedient reigns but also highlights its short comings that will inevitably take place if we fail to allow God to be in change at all times. Below are suitable headings to each chapter highlighting the principles which can be applied to the church today.
Chapter 1; The right leader for the job and encouragement.
Chapter 2; Understanding the task.
Chapter 3; Preparation, recognition and motivation.
Chapter 4; The need for strong leadership.
Chapter 5; Need for Separation TO God and a leadership directed BY God.
Chapter 6; The work has to go forward in Divine order.
Chapter 7: Disobedience will result in no blessing.
Chapter 8: Blessings abound whereever He reigns.
